SAUDI ARABIA ALLOWED MEN AND WOMEN TO SHARE HOTEL ROOMS WITHOUT PROVING THEIR MARITAL / RELATIONSHIP STATUS

The religion Islam has always emphasized on saving the dignity, respect and rights of women. This was one of the greatest characteristics of the world’s second largest religion. But something very strange happened in one of the biggest Muslim countries which caught the attention of every single person.

Saudi Arabia allowed foreign men and women to share the hotel rooms without giving any proof of their marital status. Also, the Saudi national females will be allowed to rent a hotel room without the consent of their male guardian. However, the unmarried Saudi couples will still have to provide the proof of marital relationship.

As a part of this move, all visitors (females) will not need to wear cover themselves in black robes but alcohol will remain banned to consume. Moreover, all tourist will have to dress modestly.

The easing of stringent regulations governing social interactions came after when Riyadh launched its first Tourist Visa scheme for 49 countries in order to boost tourism in the country and diversify its oil-reliant economy.

This move is also the part of the major reforms made the Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman including the lifting of Ban on movie theatres and women driving in the Kingdom.

Previously, visitor visa was only issued for specific reasons such as Pilgrimage, to visit family or Business.

Now, the new visa scheme gives One-year multiple entry that allows to stay up for up to 90 days at a time and this is being done for the first time in the country that foreigners are allowed only for Tourism purpose. The expected influx of tourist could reach to 100 million annually by 2030.
